Teaching of the Bible about Godhead of the Lord Jesus

Nowadays more and more in the churches are people who says that Jesus is not God, but the Father alone is God. It is true that the Father is God, but actually the Bible teaches that Jesus is also God. In this writing I bring out that how the Bible tells that the Father is God, and Jesus is God and how this can be true so as there is not any conflict in the Bible. This is a very important subject, because it touches very deeply the foundation of salvation. Test and discern my teaching with Word of God by prayer.

One God

Deut 6:
4 ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

1 Tim 2:
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

The Bible is  the divine message of God's word to all humankind and teaching to all Churches of God at all times. From the Bible we can see that what God says about Himself. The Bible (OT-NT) says that God is one. This means that we should and must believe that God is one we teach about Him, because it is His own testimony about Himself.

When we study the whole teaching of the Bible, so the clear teaching of the Bible is that God is one in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. This is an indisputable teaching about one God of the Bible. The Bible doesn't say that God is Trinity, but one God in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. We should use from God those concepts that God has Himsellf put in His Word to be believable.

The Bible teaches also that we must and may love the Lord our God with all of our hearts, with all of our souls, with all of our strengths and with all of our minds. When we love God, so loving Him also contains believing in Him as He teaches Himself in His Word.

Using the word Trinity is not however so wrong as such kind of teaching that denies the Godhead of the Lord Jesus. Many believers who use the word Trinity are very clearly saved by the grace of God, but he who denies the Godhead of the Lord Jesus can't be inside of saving faith. I don't place myself as the position of a judge, but I will bring out later very clear testimony of the Bible that the saving faith works only by the Godhead of Jesus. For this reason the Godhead of the Lord Jesus is the cornerstone and foundation of the Bible to which based on the Biblical salvation.

God the Creator

Gen 1:
26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The Bible tells that God is the Creator, who has created the heaven and the earth, and all the life on the earth. The Book of Genesis says that God said in plural let us make in our image, after our likeness.

Gen 1:
1 ¶ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 ¶ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

From the first verses Genesis 1 chapter comes out God, the Spirit of God and the Word of God (God said). In this passage is the first announcement about one God, who is in the Father, in the Lord Jesus, and in the Holy Spirit.

John 1:
1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The Gospel of John proves, that Jesus was the Word who was creating the heaven and the earth. This passage proves also that the Word (Jesus) is God, but not the Father. In this manner we can see one God of the Bible: God (the Father), Jesus (the Word of God, who is God) and the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of God).

Hebr 1:
1 ¶ God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

The Bible testifies in many places that Jesus was creating the heaven and the earth with His Father. Letter to the Hebrews as well the many other Bible passages we can see and believe that Jesus is God on the basis of creation. Jesus was as the character of the Creator with His Father creating the heaven and the earth, so this proves indisputably the Bible says that Jesus is God, but not the Father.

The Godhead of Jesus

Several Bible passages prove indisputably that Jesus is God, but not the Father. I bring into view one very powerful passage proving the Godhead of Jesus.

Jesus is the Lord from heaven

1 Cor 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

1 Cor 15:47 ο πρωτος ανθρωπος εκ γης χοικος ο δευτερος ανθρωπος ο κυριος εξ ουρανου (Byzantine text)

The second man in 1 Cor 15:47 means Jesus. The Bible says indisputable that Jesus is God (the Lord) from heaven, but not the Father. Some people who deny the Godhead of Jesus claim that Greek word Kurios doesn't always mean the Lord (YHWH-YHVH). The Bible proves very clearly that the Lord of heaven or Lord of heaven means the Lord of the Bible (YHWH).

Jewish rabbis have translated the Greek Septuagint and they used the word Kurios to mean the Hebrew word YHVH.

Gen 24:3 3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD (YHWH - Kurios), the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

Neh 1:5 και ειπα μη δη κυριε ο θεος του ουρανου ο ισχυρος ο μεγας και ο φοβερος φυλασσων την διαθηκην και το ελεος τοις αγαπωσιν αυτον και τοις φυλασσουσιν τας εντολας αυτου

Neh 1:5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD (YHWH - Kurios) God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

Testimony of Jesus about the Godhead

Is there in any passages of the Bible where is Jesus' own testimony that He is the Lord and God? In the Gospel of John chapter 20 is Jesus' own testimony from where comes into view that He is the Lord and God:

John 20:
26 ¶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

When Thomas saw in his own eyes resurrected Jesus, so Thomas said that Jesus is his Lord and God. If Jesus is not the Lord and God, so He should have according to the law accuse Thomas about blasphemy and giving wrong testimony. However, Jesus didn't, but confirmed the words of Thomas saying: Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed..

Jesus admitted and agreed that He is the Lord and God. Thus Jesus' own testimony proves that He is the Lord and God.

John 20:28 και απεκριθη θωμας και ειπεν αυτω ο κυριος (Kurios) μου και ο θεος  (Theos) μου

Byzantine text uses the words Kurios (the Lord) and Theos (God). The Hebrew words YHWH and Adonai in Greek is the word Kurios, which means The Lord (God). The Hebrew word Elohim (God) is in Greek Theos. Indisputable testimony of the Bible is that the Lord Jesus is God, but not the Father.

The Father is Almighty God

When we study the Bible entirely, so we notice the Bible teaches that the Father alone is Almighty God. At this point you can have confusion in your heart, but when we believe the whole teaching of the Bible, so Omnipotence of the Father doesn't cancel the Godhead of Jesus. When we study the Bible, so we can understand this matter in a right way.

Matt 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

1 Cor 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

The Lord Jesus said that all power is given to Him in the heaven and the earth. The Father gave all power to Jesus, but Jesus has not power over the Father. The Bible records that the Lord Jesus is subject to His Father, because the Father is the Head of Jesus.

1 Cor 15:
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

The Bible tells that Jesus has not power over the Father and that Jesus will subject Himself to Father, so that the Father can be all in all. According to the teaching of the Bible the Father alone is Almighty God. The Omnipotence of the Father doesn't cancel the Godhead of the Lord Jesus, because in many passages the Bible proves that Jesus is God as we have seen it.

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

The Lord Jesus said that the Father is His God. By this He meant that the Father is Almighty God. But as we have seen the Omnipotence of the Father doesn't invalidate the Godhead of the Lord Jesus.

1 Cor 2:
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The Bible teaches about one God that has hierarchical order, in which the Father is the head of Jesus. We can only understand in the Spirit that God is one in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. If we try to understand the Godhead by our natural mind so we can't understand how God can be one. This a matter of faith, not a matter of natural mind. All the teachings of the Bible must understand spiritually, not by the natural mind.

If the Omnipotence of the Father hinders you to see the Godhead of the Lord Jesus, so you have thought it by the natural and carnal mind, not by the spiritual man. The Bible records that the spiritual things must understand by the spiritual mind, which means that the Holy Spirit opens the truth, not natural mind of a man. This means that we can understand only by faith that one God is in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit.

In the Bible is nowhere such verse, in which is said word for word that God is one in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. However, the Bible tells this in another way saying that Jesus is the Lord from heaven and Jesus is the Word of God who is God and so on.

The only true God

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Cor 15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

The Gospel of John chapter 17 says that the Father is the only true God. We have seen formerly in this text that Jesus is God. Is there conflict in the passages of the Bible? Of course, there is not. The only true God connected to the Father means that He is alone the Almighty God and the head of Jesus. The Omnipotence of the Father doesn't cancel the Godhead of Jesus, because the Bible tells that Jesus is the Lord from heaven and Jesus is the Word of God, who is God and so on.

As we have seen earlier the spiritual things must understand and believe spiritually (in the Holy Spirit), not according to natural and carnal mind. He who doesn't believe the Godhead of Jesus interprets the Bible by his own mind reasoning. Therefore, he can't understand the crystal clear teacing of the Bible about one God, who is in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit.

Our task is not rationalized and interpret the Bible by our own natural mind, but believe the whole Bible in the Holy Spirit that we can understand it in a right way. When the Holy Spirit leads us and teach us, all conflicts shall disappear concerning the Godhead of the Bible. As long as we try to understand the Bible by our own natural mind, so we will be driven away from the truth of the Bible.

By the faith, which works in the Holy Spirit we can understand that one God of the Bible is in the Father, in Jesus and in the Holy Spirit. Also, teaching of the Bible about the Godhead of the Lord Jesus is brighter as millions crystals.

The Saving Faith

The saving faith according to the Bible is such in which a man believes that Jesus is the Lord and God.

Isa 43:
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

The Bible tells that there is no other Saviour as the Lord. This means that no one can be the Saviour and no one can't atone sins as the Lord, God.

Lu 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

2 Ti 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

The Bible records that Jesus is the Lord and Saviour, who is the only Lord and Saviour. Luke tells that Jesus is the Saviour, the Messiah and the Lord (God).

Acts 4:
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 4:10-12 confirms and proves that Jesus is the Lord (God) and Saviour of the book of Isaiah.

Romans 10:
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Letter to the Romans chapter 10 verses 9,10 tells us the alphabet and the foundation of the saving faith. The Bible says that we must confess with our mouth that Jesus is the Lord (God) and believe in our hearts that God has raised Jesus from the dead and so we are saved from the grace of God. The saving faith of the Bible is indisputable, because of our faith must be accordingly with the teaching of the Bible and the Bible tells that we must believe Jesus as the Lord (God), the Son of God and the Messiah that we can be in saving faith. Of course we must repent our sins and believe in the Lord Jesus.

According to that what we have seen how the Bible teaches, so if anyone denies the Godhead of the Lord Jesus, he can't be in saving faith. Don't say that I'm condemning people because I'm not, but the Word of God defines what we should believe that we could be saved from the grace of God. We confess our sins, repent and believe in the Lord (God) Jesus, so God saves us and forgives our sins.

Hebr 9:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 ¶ And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

The Bible tells that Jesus offered Himself by the eternal Spirit on the cross of Golgotha, which means that He is God because only God can have the eternal Spirit, in other words Jesus has been existed forever. Jesus atoned sins by His blood and death and if you don't believe that Jesus is God (eternal Spirit), so your sins have not been atoned and forgiven. Forgiveness of sins can be obtained only in that way that Jesus has died as the Lord (God) on behalf of your sins.

John 8:24 I said to you, that ye will die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am he, ye will die in your sins.

In the Bible Jesus says that you will die in your sins if you don't believe Jesus in the way who He is, and He is the Lord (God).

Lu 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

The Bible tells that Jesus is the Saviour, the Messiah and the Lord (God). This means that you must believe in Him as the Saviour, the Messiah and the Lord (God) that you can be saved from the grace of God.

If you don't believe the Godhead of the Lord Jesus and you think that you are saved, so repent and believe Jesus as the Lord (God), so you will be saved. In the Acts of Apostles is very clearly said the foundation and salvation of the Biblical faith because believing in the Lord Jesus contains the message that the Lord is God who is the only one who can save a man:

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

The cornerstone and foundation of the Biblical faith is the Lord Jesus, who is God. Without this cornerstone and foundation the faith is useless because Jesus is not created, but the Creator with His Father. God was needed to atone the sins of men that it could be an eternal sacrifice as it is by redemption of the Lord Jesus. The clear teaching of the Bible is that Jesus is God who has atoned sins and forgiven sins for those who believe that Jesus is the Lord (God).
